Orientation for Earth: A Soul’s Induction Interview
If souls about to take birth on Earth were given an orientation session, what might that conversation sound like? One can imagine a celestial office where newly arriving souls ask questions about the strange place they are about to enter. The answers, perhaps, would be given by someone responsible for explaining the terms of earthly life. In this little imagined dialogue, a soul named Bharati meets Prajapati, the “HR and Induction Manager for Earth.”
Prajapati: So, you are considering a visit to Earth? Let me brief you on what you are in for — some dos and don’ts and what you specifically need to be aware of.
Bharati: That’s very kind of you. I have heard a lot from souls who have returned from there. There are mixed reactions, so I wanted to check with you.
Prajapati: Well, first you will have a span of, on average, about 80–90 revolutions of Earth around the Sun — what humans call “years.” You will be provided with a bountiful supply of air and water, a generally hospitable climate, beautiful surroundings, and a healthy, functional body with which you can experience the wonders of Earth. And all this is absolutely free.
Bharati: You describe Earth as such a wonderful place, but I have heard reports of many problems — pollution, global warming, and other environmental issues.
Prajapati: I’m glad you brought that up. Earth was indeed fashioned as something close to heaven. But humans have often exploited it for selfish gain. They have misused and abused it, leaving it in the state you now hear about.
All I ask is that humans maintain it responsibly. After all, it is an extension of their home. You are here only for a while, so it is wise to leave the place at least as hospitable as you found it — if not better.
Bharati: I see. But don’t you intervene when things go wrong?
Prajapati: In fact I do. Floods, tsunamis, extreme climates — what humans call natural disasters — are sometimes strong warnings. They are meant to prompt humanity to rethink its ways. Some people have begun to understand, but many powerful interests resist change.
The scale of the problem has grown beyond individual effort. It now requires action on a global scale.
Bharati (smiling): You certainly don’t give subtle messages. You make your point with a bang!
But this brings me to another question. Do you guide individuals personally when they go astray?
Prajapati: The difficulty is that people forget me once they arrive on Earth. You are all my children, yet many become so absorbed in worldly pursuits that they remember me only when trouble comes.
Even then I help them, as a forgiving parent would. But my hope is that they remember me in all circumstances, not only in distress.
Those who keep me in their thoughts find my support more readily. I do not abandon the others either, but they often ignore the hints I send.
Bharati: So it is something like: if I remember you, you remember me.
Prajapati: Precisely. Keep that in mind when you are there.
Also remember this: you arrive empty-handed and you leave empty-handed. All the possessions people struggle so hard to accumulate — wealth, fame, property — amount to nothing on the return journey. Yet many spend their entire lives chasing these things.
Bharati: That sounds rather sad. So what are people actually supposed to do on Earth?
Prajapati: A million-dollar question! Think of Earth as a stopover in the larger journey of the soul. You are not merely a physical being there — you are a soul undergoing an earthly experience.
The purpose is growth — to rise to a higher level of awareness. But first you must work through the baggage of past actions, what humans call karma.
Earth is particularly suited for this process. It is a place where karma can be worked out quickly — almost a fast-track on the soul’s journey.
Bharati: How does that happen?
Prajapati: When humans face difficulties — illness, turmoil, disappointment — these may simply be karma unfolding. Instead of seeing them as punishment, they can be seen as opportunities for clearing old debts.
The important thing is not to accumulate fresh karma while experiencing the old. Face life’s situations with patience and dignity. If you do that, I will stand beside you and make the journey easier.
Bharati: And how have humans been doing so far?
Prajapati: To be honest, not very well. I keep sending teachers and guides — saints, sages and gurus — but many people approach them only to solve worldly problems rather than to understand life’s deeper purpose.
If humans truly grasped why they are here, my task would become much easier.
Bharati: From what you say, life on Earth sounds full of challenges.
Prajapati: It is challenging, but not without its gifts. Humans are endowed with a remarkable range of emotions: love, gratitude, kindness, compassion, joy, hope, wonder, inspiration.
These can make life deeply meaningful. The problem arises only when people allow anger, greed and fear to dominate instead.
And if you look around carefully, nature itself — mountains, rivers, forests, the night sky — constantly reminds you of the beauty of creation.
Bharati (laughing): This is beginning to sound like a very enthusiastic sales pitch!
Prajapati: Perhaps it is. But I should also mention another gift. Each person receives a particular talent or aptitude — a skill that can become a profession or vocation.
This gift is meant not only for personal gain but also for sharing with others. A musician, a doctor, a writer, an engineer — whatever your skill may be, it is intended to benefit the wider world.
Bharati: That makes sense. I think I’m ready to go. Do you have any final advice?
Prajapati: Only this: remember your purpose. Rise above trivial distractions. Do not lose yourself in the glitter of temporary things.
The kingdom of heaven remains open to you, but the path lies through awareness and growth.
Bharati: So when will my entry to Earth be scheduled?
Prajapati: Let me check… Ah yes. There seems to be heavy booking for 22 January at 12:34 pm. Earth will be celebrating the return of one of my earliest emissaries — Rama.
He lived a life that continues to inspire humanity even after thousands of years. Follow his example and you will do well.
I have a few slots available at that time. I’ll book you for it.
Good luck — and remember to keep me in your thoughts.
