The Father-of-Bride Speech
Dear Devika, Vikram, family and dearest friends,
As parents, nothing brings us more joy than seeing our daughter getting married. It fills our hearts with pride and satisfaction to know that our darling little girl has now truly grown into a mature person, ready to take on the responsibilities of marriage.
She is embarking on a new life with a person of her choice—someone she loves and cares for. We are also proud of her choice of a life partner.
As I welcome Vikram in our family, I know, as a gentleman, he will care for her, stand by her, and give her the freedom to make her own decisions in life, just as we always have.
She has never disappointed us with the freedom she was given; rather, she has used it responsibly. As a result, she has matured into a complete person—someone we now respect in her own right.
We never imagined that in the world of science, with PCR machines, DNA sequencers, cell cultures, there would be a hidden language of love. We are so glad that she has found her true love, where both of them speak the same language—a meeting of minds, as it were.
Hearing them discuss science may seem like a foreign language to us, but it is, nonetheless, quite fascinating. What we have appreciated the most about them is their scientific temper and academic rigor—qualities that will surely take them far in the world of science.
Science brought them together, and we hope it will bind them, much like the pairs of bases in a DNA molecule.
Devika has grown into a gentle and sensitive young woman, as ladylike as one could be. At the same time, she is extremely well-read, a love for books that she inherited from the family. While she primarily values logic and reason, she is also indulgent and tolerant of other ideas, never rigid in forcing her own views.
I cannot describe her more aptly than as someone with a brilliant sense of humor. Though she has been away for some time, whenever she comes home, we are always entertained by her brand of humour. I am sure that after spending time with her, Vikram knows her well. In any case, this is a lovely process of discovery for both of them, and our only suggestion is that they proceed with love, always remembering that we are all unique individuals worthy of respect.
And I may add that sometimes, a little bit of tolerance goes a long way in fostering an enduring relationship that evolves over time, providing solid support to one another.
We know and appreciate that both of you have worked hard to get where you are today. Your hard work and this marriage is the finest investment you will make, and we are confident it will yield rich dividends in the future.
We advise you to be patient and trust that God has the best in store for you. We join Him in blessing both of you.
I take this opportunity to thank you all for being here to wish Devika and Vikram on their marriage. Some of you have taken special effort to attend the ceremonies and we are very grateful to them.
